Lucas Siegel: There was a problem, a big systemic problem, that I wanted to fix in the health industry. Health supplements and pharmaceuticals weren’t being made to fix problems that healthy human populations experienced that were effective, available over the counter, safe, and scientifically proven to actually work. The only way I could fix this problem was to create a business, so I did and started AlternaScript.

Lucas Siegel: I have had two people influence me greatly. My father, a visionary and successful entrepreneur, taught me that it is important to not just start a business, but to solve a problem. Additionally, Jigar Shah, an inspirational clean energy entrepreneur, taught me how to look at the world from a macro perspective and the importance of building things that make it better. Both lessons are driving forces in everything I do, solving problems and making the world better. BusinessInterviews.com: Do you consider yourself successful and by what means do you measure success?
Lucas Siegel: I consider myself a promising work in progress. There’s still so much work that needs to be done. I’m in a growing and learning phase of my life, basically I’m a human sponge. In the end, my ‘success’ will be measured by the world relative to how much I changed the world, how much I’ve helped better peoples’ lives, and how much value I added to humanity. I can have all the money in the world, but if I made it in a way that didn’t make the world better, then I wouldn’t consider myself ‘successful.’

Lucas Siegel: Since AlternaScript has a direct-to-consumer model, in-store competitors consider us ‘strange creatures’ and don’t fully understand what we do; we’re both mythical and a bit scary to them. Online competitors see us as the gold standard of premium health supplement products because our products actually work and deliver on promises. We formulate our products based on science and patented high-quality ingredients and since they use subpar ingredients, they find it hard to compete against us in ethical ways. Our competitors see us as product perfectionists with premium scientific solutions, willing to invest in results. AlternaScript is setting a new industry standard, and setting it high.
BusinessInterviews.com: What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs and business owners? What do you wish someone told you?
Lucas Siegel: Ideas are cheap, but focus and execution create value. The least glamorous parts of starting a business are the most important and require the most persistence. You need to make sure you really love what you’re doing it before you do it in order to survive past the honeymoon period of your company.

Lucas Siegel: I’m in the biggest risk I’ve even taken right now and will let you know how it turns out! We didn’t do a venture backed deal, rather opting to take on debt instead of selling part of the company because I believe in the purpose, process and PEOPLE that is AlternaScript.
